What You Need To Know
The Medical Centre is a Nurse led Practice supported by a onsite GP partner. The Nurses have a range of skills and protocols to make sure they can manage your problems appropriately and if it becomes apparent that you need a Doctor’s input during a nurse consultation a GP is always available to liaise with the nurse and where possible, complex problems will be seen by that GP during the same attendance. This helps maintain a high standard of care and ensures that you are booked in with the right clinician, at the right time and for the right length of time.
As the majority of clinical problems are dealt with by a nurse this enables the GPs to see more complex clinical problems and give adequate time to these patients.
“Right person, right time, right duration, first time”
Under GDPR all incoming and outgoing calls are recorded.
Our practice is one of the longest established in Doncaster; it was established in the late 1890s. Over the years we have occupied a number of different premises having had surgeries in Hallgate, South Parade and Bradford Row.
As times change and standards rise, we have constantly improved the facilities and services which we offer. In 1992 we moved to custom-built premises here at The Medical Centre, on Frances Street, which we feel provides everything needed for the high quality of care and service which is now expected.
While we have 'moved with the times' and have computerised our medical records, we pride ourselves in continuing to be a family practise where we have had families registered with us for generations. This tradition of family medicine is one in which we actively foster and encourage.
We are a fully nurse led practice where our highly trained nurse team now provides much of the care that traditionally would have been done by a doctor. On a day-to-day basis we have Health Care Assistants, Treatment Room Nurses, Minor Illness Nurses, Advance Nurse Practitioners, a Pharmacist and GP's seeing and treating patients.
The doctors and staff at The Medical Centre aim to provide you with a high quality efficient confidential service that meets your needs. Our aim is to make your visits to us as friendly and effective as possible.
DonCare - Our History
In 1997 we applied to become a Primary Care Pilot (now just called PMS) in partnership with The Phoenix Practice (we have since been joined by the Tickhill & Colliery Practice). The main changes resulting from this are the number of specialist clinics we now run. These include Respiratory, Blood Pressure Control and Diabetes. We also run a comprehensive nurse triage and minor illness clinic to assist you with your medical problems and direct you to the most appropriate service. Our highly trained nurse team and in some cases our pharmacist run all these clinics. These improvements have enabled us to reduce the number of days it takes to see your doctor or nurse.
We are continuously looking for ways to improve our services to you. In order to work together we needed to be recognised as a unit within the NHS, hence the name DonCare was born which you will see on the top of newsletters etc. A point you need to be aware of, but makes no difference to the care you receive, is that we now provide service under Personal Medical Services (PMS) rather than General Medical Services (GMS).
This website has been designed to tell you about the practice and the services that we offer. Please read it carefully. We trust that you will find it helpful and informative.
